This section allows you to set up this party’s primaries information, as well as a few other pieces of information.
Primary/Caucus Data
- Date: The date of the primary or caucus for this party for this region. You can modify the date by clicking in the box, and changing the year, month, or day, or by clicking the down-arrow, which brings up a calendar box.
- Type: Whether this party has caucuses, a closed primary, or an open primary in this region. In caucuses or closed primary, only the supporters of a candidate who also are registered with that party can vote in the primaries for that candidate. This makes it harder for more centrist voters to win caucuses or closed primaries.
-
Seats
- Type: FPP (First Past the Post) or PR (Proportional Representation). If FPP is selected, the candidate who gets the highest percentage on election night wins all the seats in that region. For example, if the Republican party’s Florida primary is set to FPP, the candidate with the highest percentage wins all of Florida’s 109 seats for the Republican convention. If PR is selected, candidates get a fraction of the seats based on their fraction of the vote. For example, if a Republican candidate gets 20% in Florida, they would get 21 of Florida’s 109 seats.
- Number: The number of seats for this party in this region from this primary or caucuses.
- Cutoff: If PR is being used, this is the minimum percentage a candidate needs to get in this region’s primary or caucuses in order to receive any seats from this region.
On General Election Ballot
If this box is checked, the party will be on the general election ballot in the Political Unit selected. If it is not checked, the party will not be on the general election ballot.
Has Governor in Region
If this box is checked, this party’s candidate will get a possible momentum bonus every turn because of the efforts of the Political Unit’s governor.
Has Majority in Region
If this box is checked, it indicates that this party has a majority in the Congressional delegation from the Political Unit selected, in the case that no candidate in the general election has a majority in the Electoral College. (The candidate with the most majorities usually will win if no one has a majority in the Electoral College.)
How do I get states to switch from FPP to PR in the general election? It only gives FPP as an option. I checked the box in the Step 5 Regional Info to allow the states during the primaries to allow this…is this not possible in the general election though?
Hi there,
PR is only available for primaries.
Could the region info be improved in later versions? I really do not like going through every state/county/district and manually changing the date and what sort of system, can this feature be made similar to percentages?
Hi David,
Thanks for the feedback - it’s noted.
