From PollWonk on the forum:

Here are some tips...

1. Keep a close eye on your momentum. You should always have at least 3 momentum points between your closest rival. I won the 2000 election as Ralph Nader mostly because I built up a 24 point momentum heading into the final week of the 2000 campaign. If you have low momentum, then you want to run all-positive ads and give positive speeches. If you have high momentum, then you can start doing some negative ads. But savagely attacking the opponent doesn't work super well, unless you are attacking a guy like John Edwards for integrity or Obama for experience.
2. Always have at least one guy spying on your opponents before a debate. Your candidate prepares much better if there is a spy. I have run as Bill Clinton in 1992 and lost the debates to Bush I because I didn't know enough about my opponent.
3. Don't prepare for debates a week before the debate. Set aside one day a week for debate or issue familarity. In primary campaigns, I always start out doing an entire week of debate prep and issue familarity so I will clobber in the debates and interviews.
4. Never spend so much you have to stop your ads. Advertisements are crucial. But your money is even more. My minimum amount of cash is 9,000,000.
5. When picking your veep, pick the option with the best attributes. Unless, their home bonus is 15+, then stick to skills
6. ALWAYS SPIN STORIES!!!! HUGE MOMENTUM SWINGER!!!!!
7. Research constantly
8. Wait a 2-3 turns before making a bid for an endorsement.
9. Don't run your best crusader at the beginning. Run him during the final 3 weeks.
10. Always campaign in an eastern state on Election day. I noticed a trend... if undecideds in the east favor one candidate, then the rest of the undecideds will tag along. [Ed.: this is true, but I think this has to do with national momentum, not momentum in the East. It just looks like this because results from the East come in first.]

Hi AL,

You can download user designed scenarios (some of which are historical elections) from here:

Nevermind, I've been able to work around it: it seems the problem is only if you change the default candidate on/off settings. I reset the edited scenario, then only added candidates, and edited the issues, then manually turned candidates on/off (at the choose scenario screen rather than the edit screen) and it worked fine.

Hi, I bought PF2008+P, created a scenario (specifically Wonk Edition, adding candidates, changing who is own by default), but when I play this edited version, if I toggle from the primaries to the general, the message "List index out of bond (0)" pops up and the map doesn't change. I can get around this by clicking the background (the blue grid) and then clicking on the map - which lets me see the states, but the message will still pop up everytime I click a state whilst in general view, or if I toggle back into the general map again (after toggling back into the primary). Is there something I can do to solve this please?

I agree with Tim. This is the biggest "glitch" in the game. Even H. Clinton dropped out of the race weeks before the convention. And she was pretty close to Obama in votes. There should perhaps be some kind of a preasure-mechanism from the party, to get the candidate to withdraw from the race, so that the candidate don't ruin the chances for the party to win the election.

Hi,
Bought this game a few weeks ago and am really loving it. Questions:How do I tell if this is the latest version released? Will there be updates to this game that also list the number of states being won/or won when the election night is running?

Thank You
Philip Usher

President Forever 2008 is for Windows. At this point, we don't plan on developing President Forever 2008 for Macs or iPads.
